Hysterectomy is a surgery to remove a woman's uterus. The uterus is where a baby grows when a woman is pregnant. During the surgery the whole uterus is usually removed. Your doctor may also remove your fallopian tubes and ovaries. After a hysterectomy, you no longer have menstrual periods and cannot become pregnant
Myomectomy is an operation done to to remove fibroids from the uterus when it is needed to be removed. Laparoscopic myomectomy is the least traumatic to you. All fibroids need not be removed. Not all surgeons are trained in laparoscopic surgery; because of the small size of the incisions, removing uterine fibroids with laparoscopic myomectomy requires special training.
Ovarian cysts are common problems of ovary. You may even have it during pregnancy. Most ovarian cysts need not be operated; but when an operation is needed, the commonest way we approach cysts is by way of a laparoscopic surgery. Advantages of laparoscopic surgery are less pain after operation, early discharge from the hospital and less effect on your body
Prophylactic salpingectomy refers to the removal of healthy tubes in women who have an elevated risk for ovarian cancer. Women with elevated hereditary risk for ovarian cancer also have an elevated risk for fallopian tube cancer
Tubal ligation is done to prevent future pregnancies permenantly. It is highly successful when done laparoscopically. Failure rate is extremely low. Prophylactic bilateral tubectomy is currently done to prevent ovarian epithelial cancers.
Radical Removal of Uterus and surrounding areas is a special operation done for certain cancers of pelvic organs
This is done for certain cancers such as Vulval and vaginal cancers in isolation.
